Setting Up Your New iPad
The set-up of your iPad is simple and straightforward. You will easily be guided through with questions; however, you can also refer to these steps to learn how to set up your new device. There is also a video below you can view which also walks you through each of these steps. Please take our poll at the end of this part to let us know if this information was useful for you or not.
You can begin your set-up by sliding from left to right anywhere on the screen.
Setting up your Apple ID: This is your user name for everything you will do with Apple from accessing the iTunes and app stores to enabling iCloud. You should check with your administrator to see if a school-wide Apple ID has been created. If so, enter in that information.
By using Siri, you can use your voice to search for information, ask questions, send messages, set-up meetings, and much more. This is a great feature for your students when they have a question as they can "just ask Siri!"
|
You will be asked to select your country or region so that the date, time and contact information can also be set accordingly.
iCloud allows you to access your files anytime on any supported device. When you upgrade to iCloud Drive all of your documents will move to iCloud Drive. This is synced with your Apple ID so if you have a school-wide Apple ID, then you will need to select "Not Now".
You can help app developers improve their apps by selecting "Share with App Developers". This is entirely up to you and you can select "Don't Share" at this time.
|
Your school should have an internet connection. You can obtain your wifi network from your administrator to complete this step.
If your school has purchased iPad Air 2 or later, or iPad Mini 3 or later, you can set-up Touch ID. This allows you to unlock your device using your fingerprint.
Now you can begin using your device! Tap "Get Started" to begin.
|
By enabling location services, certain apps can gather information about your location.
If you need a passcode on your device, you can choose a 4-digit code and enter it here. If you don't need a password, select "Don't Add Passcode".
|
As this will be a new iPad and you will not be upgrading from an old one, you will set your iPad up as a new device.
iCloud Chain keeps all your passwords and information current across all of your approved devices. As this is a school iPad, you will not need to use this feature.
